Braddon '25
Braddon candidate – 2025 Tasmanian State Election.
Melissa Wells is a Circular Head local, previous small-business operator and community advocate standing for Mayor of Circular Head Council 2026.
Born and raised in Tasmania, Melissa brings lived experience of regional life and a strong record of civic participation. As a former operator of Proud Poppies at the Circular Head RSL, she understands the pressures facing local families, businesses and community organisations.
Melissa is also a stroke survivor and has spoken publicly about navigating Tasmania’s health system. She says that experience reinforced her belief in resilient local services and leadership that listens to the practical realities of residents.
Over recent years, Melissa has taken an active role in council meetings and public forums, raising concerns about child safety standards, road safety, environmental protection and decision-making transparency. She has positioned herself as a voice for residents who feel unheard in local governance.
As a mayoral candidate, her priorities include:
• Strengthening safeguarding standards and oversight in council-managed facilities and programs.
• Ensuring responsible management of ratepayer funds with clear, public accountability.
• Improving transparency in council decision-making and disclosure of influence.
• Supporting policies that keep local economic value within Circular Head.
Melissa says the role of Mayor requires steady leadership, transparent processes and a council culture that prioritises community trust.
Her campaign focuses on restoring confidence in local government and ensuring Circular Head Council operates with transparency, integrity and accountability.
